libson airport cracks project

Libson, ND – Municipal Airport Improvements

Challenge

The Lisbon airport was accepted into the National Plan for Integrated Airport Systems in March 2003. With FAA, NDAC and local city and county funding and support, improvements were on the horizon. In 2006, it was time for a major reconstruction of the airport’s runway so it could maintain Federal Aviation Administration standards. Moore Engineering helped the Lisbon Airport Authority purchase land at the north and south ends to make a runway expansion possible. Construction began in 2006 and the runway was extended from 3,050 feet long to 3,400 feet and widened from 50 feet to 60 feet. By September 2006, the new runway was complete. After five years of use, the runway, taxiway and apron were due for concrete spall and crack repair.

Solution

Moore Engineering performed a field survey and helped the Lisbon Airport Authority complete crack and concrete spall repairs for general maintenance. Further, Moore Engineering performed all construction administration tasks on the project design, safety phasing plans, site inspection and contract administration.

Project Outcome

Pavement maintenance will extend the life of the existing pavement and will keep the airport up to the standards of the FAA. The airport typically sees around 4,200 operations per year.
