Fargo, ND – 42nd Street Overpass

Challenge

This project stretched from 17th Ave S. to 32nd Ave S., including an overpass crossing Interstate 94. The area served by the 42nd Street Corridor and Overpass is one of Fargo’s major retail areas and an important part of the city’s transportation system. The stretch on this arterial street needed to accommodate a much higher traffic capacity, and was also required to provide additional access to south Fargo over I-94.

Solution

Moore Engineering developed an innovative design of the embankment up to each bridge end, utilizing shredded tires, to reduce weight and settlement. Moore Engineering prepared the concept report and helped with public participation. They also performed contract administration, inspection and construction survey for the project, working with the city and the N.D. Department of Transportation.

Outcome

Today, the 42nd Street overpass and roadway project improved traffic flow in one of Fargo’s major retail areas. The project was completed on time. The client and impacted property owners along the corridor were very satisfied with the results.
