Nick Gludt’s 35+ Year Career| What Made Him Stay at Moore?

Any organization’s success is a reflection of the people working there. The importance of attracting and retaining the best and brightest is consistent for companies of any size and in any industry. Both small startups with a handful of employees and multi-national companies with a workforce the size of a city can only attribute their success to the employees working to build.

At Moore Engineering, we know our employees are our most valuable asset. That’s why we’ve spent the last 60+ years creating systems that attract, retain, and delight every employee that joins our growing firm.

We’ve carefully crafted an inclusive culture that makes everyone feel at home. Our values of respect, integrity, accountability, loyalty, and kindness guide everything we do. And the results speak for themselves – clients and employees want to work with Moore Engineering.

In 2023 Moore Engineering boasts a 94% employee retention rate.

Many of our employee-owners have been with us for decades, Nick Gludt is one of them. We sat down with Nick to ask why he’s stayed at Moore Engineering for so long. Keep reading to understand why he and many others have spent their entire careers in the Moore family.

What first attracted you to Moore Engineering?

2001

Nick admits that Moore Engineering wasn’t on his radar when he graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo. In fact, he had never even heard of Moore. (You, dear reader, are already lightyears ahead.)

After graduation, Nick took a consulting job in Plymouth, MN before relocating back to Fargo. He soon was enlighted about Moore Engineering’s existence after learning that Moore was responsible for the bulk of West Fargo’s engineering. Roger Fenstad, another long-standing Moore employee, sold Nick on Moore during the interview process.

“What really helped in making the move was the size of the company, the opportunity for growing the firm and the people… I loved the work and client interactions, the hours were long, but the company treated you well.”

Nick’s hunger to join a growing firm was well-calculated. As a 100% employee-owned firm, all of our employee-owners have the opportunity to amass wealth through equity. Today, Moore continues its long history of sustained growth.

What positions have you held at Moore?

1989

On September 5th, 1989, Nick landed a job as Project Engineer. Over the year he’s padded his resume with unique opportunities and a variety of positions.

He began his journey at Moore as a Project Engineer before advancing to a Project Manager position where he was more heavily involved in client relations. Many cities throughout North Dakota have selected Nick as their “City Engineer.”

At Moore, we strongly believe in giving people the opportunity to advance in their careers and have a tangible impact at the firm. Nick has taken full advantage of those opportunities to hone his skills and set himself apart from others in the industry. His years of service to the communities where he has worked led him to become a partner/VP at Moore.

Outside of his day job, Nick serves as the Chairman of the ND Board of Professional Registration and as Chairman of the NDSU Civil Engineering and Environmental Advisory Board. Nick expressed his gratitude to Moore for allowing him to give back to the organizations that have shaped his career.

What has kept you at Moore?

Nick attributes his 35+ year career at Moore to the people he works with and the life-long friends he’s made during his time at Moore.

“The people, we have the best group of employees! The benefits are excellent, but the staff is what keeps me going. I need to feel like I accomplish something at the end of each day, and the company provides this to me.”

The management at Moore Engineering has spent decades curating the best management systems and leaders the region has to offer. Our values permeate all the way through the organization. Managers and the executive team do an excellent job of putting what they preach into practice.

“The work environment is very calm. We have no “fist-pounding” supervisors or leadership. I have always had the attitude that if you do something good for this company, you will be rewarded.”
