Alexa Ducioame named YWCA Women of the Year Recipient

Alexa Ducioame is paving the way in our community for innovation, inclusion, and progress in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Alexa has been employed at Moore Engineering since 2012 and has a passion for protecting communities from flood disasters. She is not only dedicated to her career but also has an unwavering passion for serving our youth and making STEM education accessible and fun to all ages and backgrounds.

On April 22nd, Alexa was named YWCA Cass Clay’s Women of the Year award in the Science and Technology category. We are incredibly proud of her commitment to our organization and our community.


Background and Career Journey

Alexa’s journey in the world of STEM began with a strong educational foundation. She holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of North Dakota. Since 2012, Alexa has been an integral part of Moore Engineering where she currently serves as a Water Resources Project Manager. Her tenure at Moore has been marked by a series of accomplishments, ranging from small projects to notable work such as the Ada, Minnesota flood control project and the Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion project. She consistently showcases her expertise in creating innovative solutions to complex challenges.


Community Involvement and Recognition

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Alexa has consistently poured into her community by serving on boards and volunteering with a specific passion for STEM organizations. Alexa’s commitment to promoting diversity in STEM education is exemplified through her involvement in co-founding BrainSTEM, a yearly initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and reducing bias in STEM fields.


Through her leadership, community service, and dedication to advancing the field of engineering, she has received recognition through several organizations including being named one of Prairie Business Magazine’s 40 Under 40, Lisa Buchli Floodplain Manager of the Year, American Society of Civil Engineers New Faces¬ of Civil Engineering Professionals, and North Dakota AAUW Women of Distinction.


YWCA Women of the Year Award

For over 50 years, the YWCA has been highlighting inspiring women and organizations. During the yearly Women of the Year event, 800 people come together to celebrate the nominees’ passion, service, and achievements. Alexa receiving the 2024 YWCA Women of the Year in the Science and Technology field is a testament to her determination and encouragement for all aspiring engineers, particularly women and underrepresented minorities, to pursue their passions. We are so proud of you, Alexa!
