Big news: 8th Ave N is open to traffic! No more jogging a couple blocks to the north to get to Vet’s Club or the Post Office. Underground infrastructure, streets and sidewalks east of Langer are substantially complete. Otter Tail Power Co. is installing our new downtown streetlights, and Kaufman’s continues to make progress on the planter beds.

Turning to Front Street west of Langer, sanitary sewer main and services, and water services are complete. This week, crews are working on storm sewer infrastructure on Front and 6th Ave N. Next week starting will be the earthwork for the roadway.

The final stage of pavement removals is slated for September 2, on Front Street west of 6th Ave.

All downtown businesses are open and accessible on foot by way of temporary sidewalks. Pizza Ranch has home delivery AND will deliver to their alley door if you prefer. Red Baron has alley access. Give Casselton Drug & Floral a call and they will meet you in the alley to fill your order or invite you in. TruCore Fitness is accessible from the west side through the alley.

The west block of Front St (between Langer and 6th Ave) is likely to begin construction on Tuesday, August 18. The east block is finishing up quickly with signage and striping planned for Monday. Crews will button up that east block and move over to the west side of Langer on Tuesday.

A temporary sidewalk will be installed to maintain pedestrian access to front doors. Many businesses are also offering alley door access and delivery service during construction. All businesses remain open!

Work is in full swing along 6th, with concrete removals continuing this week.

We’re having a grill out in Governor’s Park on Thursday (yes, even though the street will be torn up). It’s Third Thursdays on Front Street so let’s get out and enjoy time with neighbors!

July 21, 2026 Construction Update

Thirty days goes by fast and the intersection of Langer and Front Street is scheduled to be open by the end of TODAY!

Focus turns to concrete pours on 8th Ave and Front St between Vet’s Club and Langer. Sidewalks in front of the businesses will be poured the first week of August, with a three-day window where front doors won’t be accessible. Many businesses have back-door access and/or will do deliveries.

By the third week of August those two blocks will reopen and crews will move to the east block of Front and 6th Ave.

July 7, 2026 Construction Update

Crews are prepping to start putting the concrete back in downtown! Each phase of concrete will have to cure for about four days before the next phase can start. Phases include westbound lane, eastbound lane, curb and gutter, valley gutter, colored concrete, and finally… sidewalk! All told, about 48 days for this last stage of the two blocks under construction. Then we paint the stripes and open it back up for your use.

The focus is on finishing the intersection first and concrete pouring has begun. The pouring starts with the curb on the west side of the intersection. Next is the curb on the east side. The intersection will be done and open by the end of July.

Next week a pump truck arrives to pour the mainline on Langer, with crews working their way east towards 8th Ave.

Business sidewalks will be poured in early August. Building owners will be contacted with specific dates when they are known.

We’ve heard rumors of a Grand Re-Opening Sale at Hardware Hank. There’s lots of foot traffic finding its way to Bondegard Café and Mane Street Hair. Dr. Davis has his back door for clients. Casselton Vet’s Club just announced they are available for catering lunches (might we suggest the burger baskets?). Other businesses on the block are anxious to invite you to enjoy their new front entrances. Hang in there!

June 19, 2026 Construction Update

Construction continues in downtown Casselton. On Monday, June 22 the intersection of Langer Ave and Front St will join the party. There will be an approximate 30-day detour which will divert traffic off of Langer onto 6th Ave. Cars will be redirected off Langer from south of Petro Serve to 1st St N. Trucks will be directed to stay on 6th Ave N all the way to 5th St N.

The underground work should be just about completed on both active blocks by the end of next week. The concrete subcontractor would start their work (new curb and concrete pavement) on those two blocks in early July.

All downtown businesses are open and accessible, and many are offering alley door access to their customers! Keep shopping and enjoying your downtown while we fix it up!

June 10, 2026 Construction Update

Crews continue to work on one block of 8th Ave and one block of Front Street. As work moved further into Langer, a gravel road bump was installed to bypass sewer flow and keep traffic flowing in the north bound lane. Langer remains fully open at this time, please just slow down at the Front Street intersection as workers are quite close to traffic.

 
The Langer/Front intersection is scheduled to be closed around June 22 (dates are approximate at this time). There will be a 30-day time period that traffic will be diverted to the 6th Ave North railway crossing.

 
Each phase of construction is expected to last 60 days, therefore phase 1 on 8th Ave N should reopen before the end of July.

 
Downtown is open for business! There are sidewalk mats to the front doors of your favorite businesses and barricades to keep you and the construction separated. Please continue to support our locally owned shops and services; they need you more than ever. A few other notes…
– Swanks Car Club WILL Cruise to Casselton this year! Club leadership is working closely with Casselton Public Works to determine the best layout for the car show. Stay tuned for more communication on this.

June 1, 2026 Construction Update

Work on 8th Street is well underway; in fact, a block of 8th Street pavement is gone as crews start updating the underground infrastructure. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately 60 days.

Starting Monday, June 1, Front Street from 8th Ave to just shy of Langer is closed to vehicles. Businesses and sidewalks remain open. Langer will remain open at this time.

May 22, 2026 Construction Update

Construction work is beginning Tuesday in downtown Casselton, but businesses remain OPEN throughout the project. Work is being done in smaller sections to help maintain access as much as possible — so please continue to shop local and support downtown businesses during construction.

Here’s the current schedule:

Beginning Tuesday, May 26
– Concrete removal will start on 8th Avenue

Following week
– Work will continue on Front Street from 8th Avenue to just short of the Langer Avenue intersection. Langer Ave will be open.
– The project is being phased carefully to avoid shutting down the entire downtown area at once. Access to businesses will continue, even as certain streets or blocks are temporarily closed.

Front Street Forward: Downtown Casselton Revitalization
May 5, 2026 Construction Update

Downtown Casselton’s streets and sidewalks, originally built in the 1950s, and the aging underground utilities under them, are getting an upgrade! After years of planning, construction is scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 26 at the intersection of Front Street and 8th Avenue.

Initial work will include:
– Pavement removal
– Underground utility and pipe installation
– Construction crews will work north along 8th Avenue before transitioning to Front Street, and continuing toward Langer

Once construction begins, weekly construction meetings will be held to review completed and upcoming work, traffic and access updates, and project timelines and adjustments.

Traffic & Access Information
– Message boards will be installed prior to the start of construction to help communicate traffic changes and detours.
– Ground vibration monitors will also be installed before work begins.
– Langer Avenue will remain open during the initial phase of construction.
– A temporary closure Langer and detour using 6th Avenue is anticipated sometime in June.

This project aims to revitalize the downtown area by modernizing its infrastructure, improving safety, and ensuring long-term functionality for the community. We want to keep you informed every step of the way.
