Mandan, ND – Rockwood & Sunrise View Estates Subdivisions Project

CHALLENGE

Moore Engineering worked with two local developers to design adjoining developments. Moore designed a water, sewer, and stormwater management system for each development that blended and tied into Mandan’s existing utility infrastructure. After the underground infrastructure was complete, the concrete work, lighting, and roadway surface needed to be completed. The existing land included rolling hills providing grading challenges throughout the development.

SOLUTION

The utility infrastructure was designed to City of Mandan standards meeting all local and state regulations. Extensive storm water modeling ensured correct storm sewer and pond sizing. To connect the sanitary sewer to the City’s existing sewer collection system, a lift station and force main were constructed. The project was graded efficiently to ensure a net zero borrow/waste of earthwork from the site.

Moore Engineering worked with the City of Mandan to create a special assessment district and pass the necessary resolutions for a Street Improvement Project. The roadway system was designed to provide seamless flow between the two developments, while also tying into the City’s existing roadway network. The roadway project was bid as one project encompassing both developments. Work included roadway construction, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, lighting, and signing. The developments are accessed by North Dakota Highway 1806. To provide safe access, the NDDOT required turning lanes at the development entrance. Moore designed the transportation system to meet NDDOT standards.

OUTCOME

The underground portion of the project was completed in 2022-2023 and the roadway construction was completed in 2023-2024. The large project included several challenges including stormwater modeling, DOT coordination, and the rolling elevations. Moore Engineering was able to blend two developments together while seamlessly integrating the utilities and roadway networks into the City’s existing infrastructure.

The project unlocked over 100 acres of land for residential development near the newly completed Mandan High School.
