Block 9 Urban Plaza

CHALLENGE

The Developer planned to revitalize an existing surface parking lot to a new parking ramp, mixed-use tower and urban plaza. This required coordination between the Developer, three architects, Park District and City staff. Additionally, the site was constrained by existing utilities, street and building elevations. The urban plaza was intended to provide an event space and be a central location for the public to gather.

SOLUTION

The Developer planned to revitalize an existing surface parking lot to a new parking ramp, mixed-use tower and urban plaza. This required coordination between the Developer, three architects, Park District and City staff. Additionally, the site was constrained by existing utilities, street and building elevations. The urban plaza was intended to provide an event space and be a central location for the public to gather.

OUTCOME

The redevelopment of the existing surface parking lot successfully created a new destination in downtown Fargo. The urban plaza offers amenities for all weather and types of activities which include the following: Concert stage, movie nights, splash pad, artificial turf, skating rink, programing areas (tree lighting, parade grandstand, art, etc.) and seating areas.
