Roundabout construction project by Moore Engineering

Beltrami County CSAH 15 Reconstruction & Roundabout Project – Bemidji, MN

Challenge

The Beltrami County Highway Dept. was looking to improve safety, address drainage issues, add pedestrian facilities, and improve pavement conditions on CSAH 15/Irvine Ave. on the north side of Bemidji, MN.

Improving traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Anne St. & CSAH 15/Irvine Ave. was another goal of the project.

Solution

The half-mile urban reconstruction project was started in 2022 with the design being completed in the spring of 2023. Construction took place & was completed in the fall of 2023.

A roundabout was designed and constructed at the intersection of Anne Street & CSAH 15/Irvine Ave. to enhance traffic flow and improve pedestrian safety.

Outcome

The addition of the roundabout improves traffic flow, promotes lower speeds and traffic calming, eliminates left-handed turns – reducing conflict points – and improves operational performance.

ADA ramps and crossings were installed in all four quadrants of the new roundabout intersection.

The reconstructed roadway was lowered to allow for adjacent properties to drain toward the road. A storm sewer was also installed to provide for proper drainage of the project area.

An 8-foot shared-use path was constructed from 30th Street to Anne Street resulting in a new half-mile path for pedestrian activities.

Moore Engineering provided a variety of services for the project including predesign, design, hydraulics, feasibility studies, and public engagement.
