Moore Engineering Earns 2026 Engineering Excellence Award for Ashley Water Project

We’re excited to share that Moore Engineering has been recognized with a 2026 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Dakota (ACEC ND). The award honors our work on the Ashley Water Supply, Treatment, and Storage Improvements project, which supports long-term reliability for the City of Ashley, North Dakota.

Supporting a Reliable Future for Ashley

The project focused on helping the City of Ashley address aging infrastructure and plan for a more reliable, long-term water supply. Through a comprehensive evaluation process, our team analyzed multiple alternatives, balancing technical performance, costs, and long-term value to identify the best path forward.

That process included evaluating long-term costs, rate impacts, and funding considerations to help the City make a fully informed decision.

A Sustainable Water Solution

The final solution included transitioning to treated water from the South Central Regional Water District and constructing a new elevated storage tower to improve system reliability and efficiency. This approach ensures the community has access to a high-quality, sustainable water source while reducing long-term operational and maintenance costs.

For the City of Ashley, this means a more dependable water system that meets state standards, lowers long-term costs, and supports future growth. The project was supported in part by funding from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) and the North Dakota Department of Water Resources (DWR), helping make the solution financially achievable for the community.

A Data-Driven Approach for Rural Communities

A key part of the project was applying advanced analysis tools to support decision-making in a small rural community. By combining engineering expertise with financial modeling and community input, the team evaluated multiple options and helped City leaders confidently choose the best long-term solution.

The analysis also considered rate impacts and potential funding approaches, giving the City a clear understanding of both the technical and financial implications of each option. This helped ensure the final solution was not only reliable, but also realistic and sustainable for the community.

Beyond Engineering

In addition to technical planning and design, the project also included a creative, community-focused element. Moore’s marketing team assisted the City of Ashley with developing a new logo concept for the water tower, helping reflect the community’s identity and creating a visual connection for residents.

Looking Ahead

Projects like this highlight how thoughtful planning and community-focused engineering can make a lasting impact. We’re proud of the team’s work and the positive impact this project will have on the City of Ashley for years to come.
