Building Strong Communities: Langdon, North Dakota
One of the greatest challenges cities face is balancing infrastructure needs with available resources. Aging roads, water systems, and other essential services require updates, but without funding and expert guidance, critical projects can be delayed for years. That’s where Moore Engineering comes in. We work alongside communities to develop solutions, identify funding opportunities, and bring long-overdue improvements to life, helping cities move forward with confidence.
Facing Infrastructure Challenges in Langdon
For decades, the city of Langdon, North Dakota, faced mounting infrastructure challenges. The streets, last upgraded over 30 years ago, were breaking down, and water systems were struggling to keep up. For residents, these issues had become a daily frustration, making it harder to navigate their own community. City leaders knew something had to change, but with a long list of needs and limited resources, the path forward wasn’t simple.
“It’s been probably 30 years since we’ve actually had a street project in town,” said Langdon City Commissioner, Lawrence Henry. “The pavement is down to the dirt in places, curb and gutter is falling apart, and the water doesn’t flow properly. People were asking, ‘When are you going to do something about our streets?’”
In 2014, Langdon began working toward a solution. Partnering with Moore Engineering, the city assessed its infrastructure, prioritized projects, and explored funding options. The initial focus was on addressing urgent needs, such as water and sewer replacements. With those critical projects completed, Langdon is now in the midst of a multi-year street reconstruction effort that will revitalize nearly 80% of the city’s roads.
A Multi-Year Plan for Lasting Change
With funding secured and a strategic approach in place, the city moved forward with a large-scale infrastructure improvement plan. The project included:
✔️ Rebuilding deteriorated roads to provide a smoother, safer experience for drivers and pedestrians
✔️ Replacing curb and gutter systems to improve drainage and reduce standing water
✔️ Upgrading outdated infrastructure to support the city’s long-term needs
City leaders approached these upgrades with a long-term vision, ensuring that every dollar spent would provide lasting benefits. As construction progressed, residents began seeing tangible improvements, reinforcing the community’s commitment to investing in its future.

A Project Built on Partnership
For Langdon, having a reliable team made all the difference.
“Moore Engineering doesn’t have an office here, but it feels like they do,” said Roxanne Hoffarth, City Auditor “Whenever we call, they’re ready to help and go above and beyond to ensure we have the resources we need.”
At Moore Engineering, we know strong communities are built through partnerships, not just projects. Our role wasn’t just about fixing roads, it was about equipping Langdon with the knowledge, funding, and strategy to sustain these improvements for years to come.
Investing in the Future
The progress in Langdon is more than just new pavement and updated utilities, it’s about creating a city that supports its residents for generations.
“They’ve improved our quality of life,” said Commissioner Henry “By getting us what we need for our streets, infrastructure, water, and sewer lines, they’ve made life better for everyone, and they’re helping keep our community moving forward.”
As Langdon continues to grow, one thing is clear: investing in infrastructure means investing in people. At Moore Engineering, we are honored to support communities like Langdon, helping them build a strong foundation for the future.
