
Edison Elementary Safe Routes to School
PROJECT OVERVIEW
As part of the ongoing Safe Routes to School initiative under the Transportation Alternatives Program, the City of Minot has been expanding its sidewalk network to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility. This project represented the second phase of sidewalk installation around Edison Elementary School, aimed at improving connectivity for students and pedestrians. The project involved navigating complex site conditions, including steep slopes, existing landscaping, and mature trees, while ensuring compliance with ADA and PROWAG standards.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Moore Engineering, Inc. provided construction engineering services for the project, ensuring successful implementation while addressing site constraints and minimizing impacts to adjacent
properties. Key responsibilities included:
- Field Engineering & Compliance – Delivered practical solutions to maintain ADA/PROWAG compliance while mitigating disruptions to existing landscaping and property features.
- Design Enhancements – Identified and incorporated value-added improvements, such as additional ADA ramps and drainage enhancements, within the project scope and budget.
- Stakeholder Coordination – Conducted public outreach to inform and engage property owners, ensuring transparency regarding project impacts and construction schedules.
- Construction Administration – Oversaw construction activities to ensure quality, adherence to specifications, and alignment with project goals.
OUTCOME
Through effective project management and engineering solutions, Moore Engineering successfully facilitated the expansion of Minot’s sidewalk network, providing a safer and more accessible route for students at Edison Elementary and the surrounding community. The project contributed to the City’s long-term goal of enhancing pedestrian infrastructure while balancing stakeholder needs and site constraints.
