2025 ACEC ND Engineering Excellence Award for Kindred Wastewater Project
We’re excited to share that Moore Engineering has won a 2025 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Dakota (ACEC ND)! We earned the award in the Water and Stormwater category for our work on the Kindred Wastewater Collection and Expansion Project.
This recognition highlights not just solid engineering, but how good infrastructure can make a big difference in a community. And Kindred is a great example of that.

Solving Big Challenges for a Growing Town
Kindred’s old wastewater system just couldn’t keep up. With continued growth and weather extremes like heavy rain and snowmelt, the system was overwhelmed, leading to untreated wastewater being bypassed—definitely not ideal for public health or the environment.
Our team partnered closely with the city to come up with a long-term solution that would actually work for Kindred’s future. Through careful planning and input from the community, we helped the city:
- Choose the best site for new wastewater lagoons
- Design and install a brand-new force main network
- Upgrade the main lift station with new tech and a backup generator
- Safely decommission the old lagoon and plan for repurposing the area

Built for the Long Haul
This project was about more than just fixing a problem—it was about setting Kindred up for what’s next. The upgrades help the city stay in line with environmental regulations, prepare for more residents, and improve the overall wastewater treatment process.
Plus, thanks to some smart funding—including a $4.2 million USACE Section 594 Grant and $420,000 in loan forgiveness—the city was able to complete the $8.3 million project in a way that made sense financially.
Cleaner water, better infrastructure, and peace of mind for the community? That’s a win.
A True Team Effort
“Moore Engineering provided exceptional leadership and technical expertise throughout the entire project,” said Darrell Kersting, Mayor of Kindred. “These improvements not only address our community’s needs today but position us well for the growth ahead.”
We’re honored to be recognized for work that supports strong, sustainable communities. Huge congrats to our project team and the City of Kindred—it was a team effort all the way!
