A majority of the City’s water and sewer system was installed in 1947 and was nearing the end of its useful life. Issues that included older, degrading cast iron water main, to woefully undersized storm sewer, this project will repair the trunk storm sewer line in town, along with non-working gate valves, curb stops, and fire hydrants.
With Moore Engineering, the city applied for and received funding for a second $5 million project to repair sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, and street issues throughout town. The city received $2,229,000 in grant funds to go along with $2,771,000 in low interest loan funds to help pay for the project from the United States Department of Agriculture – Rural Development.
The City of New England completed a 33 block water main replacement project in 2015, and chose to continue the process in 2016.
