A majority of the water main within the City of Arthur was installed in 1961. This water main is asbestos cement pipe (ACP) and is nearing the end of its useful life span. The city also has non-functioning gate valves, fire hydrants, and curb stops that make operating the water system very difficult for city personnel. To remedy these issues, the City partnered with Moore Engineering, Inc. to complete a funding application for a United States Department of Agriculture – Rural Development grant and loan combination. Upon completing the application, the City received $1,338,000 in grant funds and $1,687,000 in low interest loan funds for the project.
